Research Security:
Starting Conversations and Actions
This handout presents Research Security (RS) as a structural condition of contemporary scholarship. It examines how academic freedom and academic responsibility interact in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, and how universities can build institutional resilience without compromising openness. We aim this way to stimulate informed dialogue and identify practical, proportionate actions that universities and other research institutions can take, individually and collectively, to safeguard academic freedom while upholding the highest standards of responsibility in research, innovation, and compliance with applicable legal and research security frameworks (including those related to dual-use technologies).
